LUNAR HABITAT

Mare Tranquillitatis · Colony Charter, Tier 1

You have been handed two hundred thousand credits, a patch of regolith, and a mandate: turn this into a self-sustaining lunar colony. Everything above the surface is exposed to radiation and micrometeorites. Everything below it has to be dug out first — and the deeper you go, the more it costs and the safer it gets.

The first ten minutes

• Place a Surface Airlock on the surface deck. Every module in the colony is scored on how far it is from one.
• Run a Transit Shaft down from the airlock — drag vertically to size it.
• Hang Corridors off the shaft, then Crew Pods, an O2 Scrubber, a Water Recycler and a Hydroponics Bay.
• Power it with a Solar Array on the surface — and a Battery Bank, because the lunar night is fourteen days long.
• Add a Landing Pad. No pad, no immigration, no colony.

Rules that will bite you

• Everything must connect. Modules need an unbroken run of occupied cells back to a shaft and out to an airlock. A red ! means nobody can reach it.
• The night is long. Solar output falls to zero for half of every 28-day cycle. Bank power, or bury a fission plant.
• Radiation is depth. Three levels of rock overhead is full shielding. Above that, put a Regolith Shield Cap on the level directly above your habitats — or lose people to the next solar flare.
• Distance is misery. Long walks to the airlock wreck morale. Mag-Lift shafts fix that.
